我的窄桥 My Narrow Bridge

我的希望
My Hope

我的研究应该严格遵循还原论和机械论的原则;
My research should rigorously adhere to the principles of reductionism and mechanism;

我不把人脑复杂化为由简单抽象概念表述的架构;
I do not complicate the human brain into an architecture articulated through simple abstractions;

我不把人脑简化为由复杂系统涌现出的魔法;
I do not simplify the human brain into magic emerging from a complex system;

我不把命名当作解释,不把相关当作因果,也不把预测当作理解;
I do not mistake naming for explanation, correlation for causation, or prediction for understanding;

我不以不可检验的概念填补证据留下的空白;
I do not fill the gaps left by evidence with concepts that cannot be tested;

我宁愿保留一个尚未解决的问题,也不愿接受一个没有机制的答案;
I would rather preserve an unresolved question than accept an answer without a mechanism;

我应该以克制和精确解释我的研究发现;
I should interpret my research findings with restraint and precision;

我的解释不应该超出证据,也不应该停留在证据的表面;
My explanations should neither exceed the evidence nor remain at its surface;

我不接受任何原则上无法被人类理解的解释;
I do not accept any explanation that is, in principle, beyond human understanding;

复杂可以是事实,但不能成为逃离解释,或逃入某种解释的理由;
Complexity may be a fact, but it cannot justify fleeing from explanation or taking refuge in one;

未知可以暂时存在,但不可知不应被轻易宣告;
The unknown may persist for a time, but the unknowable should not be declared lightly;

我不必得到每一个问题的答案,但我必须承认每一个问题都存在一个答案;
I need not obtain the answer to every question, but I must acknowledge that every question has an answer;

这条路也许狭窄,却足以让我在理解与想象之间保持平衡;
This path may be narrow, but it is wide enough to keep me balanced between understanding and imagination;

我宁愿缓慢地走在这座窄桥上,也不愿在语言构成的大陆上迷失;
I would rather walk slowly across this narrow bridge than lose myself on a continent made of words;

这不是一个问题;这不是一个答案;这也不是一个错误。
This is not a question; this is not an answer; nor is this an error.
